Lake Buena Vista Factory Stores is expanding to make room for new stores and restaurants, its owners said Thursday.
The shopping center just east of Disney World will add 110,000 square feet of space by 2016 on a piece of property adjacent to the center.
Construction is expected to start on the property in the third quarter of this year, but no new tenants have been announced yet.
“With this growth has come more inquiries from potential new tenants, but with low store turnover, we needed more space to maximize these opportunities,” said Sutton Properties President Sam Sutton in a statement. “Expanding our center by nearly 50 percent will enable us to do so.”
The outlet center, which opened in 1996, currently has about 238,000 square feet of retail and restaurants. There are 50 tenants at the property.
The expansion should create about 225 new jobs, managers said.
